urban decay

So, I have recently graduated from the University of Washington with my MFA in Costume Design. What I'm interested in right now is learning how to produce some of my own work. I'd like to eventually do wearable art fashion shows, installations, and collaborative performance pieces.

I am  working slowly on a project for Freeway Park in Seattle. I'm creating an outfit for a photo shoot in the fountain area. I've recently learned that the style of architecture is called "brutalist", thank you wikipedia! Here's a picture of the area that inspires me:

I like the organic quality of the urban decay. This is sounding rather artsy-snobby, but the way that the organic age and moss and dampness modifies the inorganic shapes and materials is aesthetically intriguing. More on this project as I continue...

About the Blog: First Post

"Beauty will save the world" is a quote from Dostoyevsky. I use it for this blog because I love it. Quixotic? Of course. I wouldn't have it any other way.

A Quick Note: this blog is not specifically related to the two books that use the quote as a title (by Gregory Wolfe, by Brian Zahnd), nor the lecture (by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn), nor any other person's use of the quote. It is simply part of my contribution, as Miss Rumphius would say:
"something to make the world more beautiful".

And since I'm not a super savvy blogger yet, for my first post I'll simply post one of my favorite photos. I found this years ago on the net, I wish I could credit the photographer!

It is wonderfully moody.
It inspires me to both introspection and wanderlust.
